    Though Frank said there is no generalization, I think it is still possible - sort of - the coDec may be seen as an elevated Pole Distance. Hence:

    • a noon Lat = Z.D. + Dec
    • a midnight Lat = P.D. + Alt

    For me this is easier to comprehend as all usual sign conventions apply: North Pole is +90°, South Pole is -90°, the declination is positive if North, negative if South, the altitude is always positive. The Lat will automagically have the correct sign too.
