I am familiar with two methods for determining your latitude from double altitudes: an iterative method developed by Cornelius Douwes, a Dutch officer of sea officers and pilots around between 1740 and 1754 and a non-iterative method by Nathaniel Bowditch, first published in the 1826 edition of his New American Practical Navigator.
