Sorry, I don't have any personal information about Sumner, except the sentence that I had read many years ago and reproduced in my last message to this thread. Sumner's personal life should be very uneasy from his college days then, as I see from scarce remarks done in this thread in the last days. Maybe, he would be accepted as an interesting madcap today. But it could not be his only characte feature. After all, he became a merchant master after some sea practice in an unforgiving environment. We (I) lack some important details to this theme - but not important for Sumner's intellectual significance. Jan Kalivoda
