    Re: Lindbergh-Weems Navigaiton Watch Gotchas

    Tony,

Look at what Gary LaPook and Paul Dolkas did to adapt their watches (post references below).

My PostScript graphics are somewhat unfair. There are more reference tick-marks and dots than the original watch had. The large graphics, many times larger than the actual watch face, help too. The combination of marks and size give very precise readings.

However you make your watch Tony, you still need to pay attention to the subtle Equation of Time gotchas when the the hour hand is on the hour or near so.

Gotchas aside, I have to hand it to Lindbergh and Weems, the watch design is quite neat for what it does.

On somewhat of a tangent, I once attended a lecture where the audience was mostly pilots of small planes. I had a good laugh. Almost everyone in the audience, except myself, was wearing some sort of fancy night-glowing bezel-rotating multi-dial lapse-buttoned stop-watch enabled wrist watch. You could pick them out of a crowd at 100 feet.

    Good luck with your project.

    Ed
