In 1967/8 we were one of the last courses to train using the Hughes MkIXBM bubble sextant. We were required to hand them back on progressing from the Varsity to the Dominie. A couple of years later I saw them advertised in Flight Magazine for£12.50 GBP each, which means the vendor probably bought a job lot for pennies at auction. The chances are they had been fully serviced in the meantime by Fenns of Farnborough. I considered purchasing one, but newly married with a small family even £12.50 seemed a lot of money. Dave P
