    The only thing that's novel about your solution is the amazingly concise implementation on a certain machine (at the cost of readability). I have seen the algorithm published in the Journal of Navigation many years ago (different from the paper that Andrés mentioned. If I can find it, I will post a reference.) There has been a proliferation of "new" algorithms like that in the 80s, when the first pocket calculators became widely available.

    Its publication in a respectable journal not withstanding, the solution is wrong. The navigator must use all sources of information for the position solution. The one thing you are most certain of when you take your observations, is that the boat has not sunk yet, and has not taken off in the storm. Thus you have an overdetermined fix and your solution discards the most valuable information for the sake of elegance.
