Log-scales laser-etching?

Hello!
Recently I sent a PDF with Robin Stuart's flat Bygrave scales to a laser-etching work-shop - to evaluate the costs of works.
Their reply was far from reassuring. Despite the fact their tools are capable of 500 DPI, the thinnest line they can do is no lesser than 0.3mm, they say that the digits, especially the minutes, will not be readable. That particular work-shop does not accept neither PS nor PDF for input material, they demand to convert it to CorelDraw first.
That is very frustrating...
I had big expectations of laser-etching for this project. Seems, the only way is to use laminated prints made on regular paper and transparent sheets...
I'll try contacting several other work-shops though.
Please comment.
Regards,
Tony
