I bid on and won an Otis King cylindrical. Alas, the scale had come unglued and when I tried to tack it back on the drum, the ends did not meet. After much thought and timid experiments, I took the chicken way out, and bid on another one without this defect. Its an interesting problem. I do not know how they did it at the factory. The drum is brass, nicely machined, and, of inflexible diameter. Thank goodness the circumference is only linearly related to diameter. I'm assuming any spiral design would have this problem. But Hanno IX, the idea of adjusting the diameter to match the scale, I think would work, as long as the final dia. didn't leave too much slop, side to side. I think I'll give a try. The gap isn't very much, about .01 inch, which means I'd have to turn the drum down only three mils.
