Hewitt,
I have onboard K&E mahogany, K&E plastic, and Post bamboo. They all seem to be doing well. The plastic would probably be the best bet for cockpit use. For time, speed, and distance I have been using the K&E Doric model which is 10 " plastic. For CN I have been using the K&E 4080-3 which is 10" mahogany that is scaled in degrees and minutes.
Time sight trials by slide rule have been going very well with better than expected accuracies so far.

Speaking of slide rules, does anyone know how a wood one fares over time on a
small boat? I never wanted to trust my beloved K&E on any trip, so I used to
carry a 6" circular aluminum one.
