    Re: Longitude from moon culmination

In my moon culmination example a few days ago I made an arithmetic error of 0.2' when calculating the GHAbl, propagating to the resulting longitude.

Perhaps of more interest is that I realized there is a slightly easier way to proceed, once you've determined the UT of meridian passage of the moon's bright limb; in my example 1h33m2s. Instead of calculating the GHA of the bright limb, calculate the UT of the star's meridian passage = 1h33m2s +1m23s = 1h34m25s. With this UT find GHAAries (97°21.8' + 8°37.7' = 105°59.5'), add SHAstar and then you have GHAstar = 341°59.5' = westerly longitude. With this method you don't have to adjust again for SD' and there is no need to include the v-correction for the moon.
