Bowditch addresses this. See the chapter Time. But that is just about sunrise, sunset and the eqution of time.
I have tried something similar which influences the accuracy of the result. From time to time I have computed, to the second, sunrise as viewed from my home to a good horizon, and then measured how far out that was from actual - the difference being (assumed) the actual effect of refraction over the predicted effect of refraction. But then I know both my longitude and latitude in advance. Ofcourse, the time of sunrise and sunset varies by both.
