Good Post with good questions and an opinion
First, I am 82 years old, I better get going on CelNav, the candle may be burning short. The reason I was looking for a Celesticomp V is that I have read and watched old You Tubes where its shown you enter your sextant sights and the Celesticomp V cranks out the answers. I was born with Dyscalculia. Do a search on google: dyscalculia, Cleveland Clinic, or Wikipedia. Simply put it's the inability to handle math. And it can not be learned, your brain developed with Dyscalculia and there is NO cure. My life has been in Management with a Top Fortune 500 company where I excelled. I have no ability to handle algebra, trig etc, so I just stay away from them. But that has not hurt me at all in life. I have had the most wonderful and super rewarding life, I am happy and content.
As mentioned, I inherited by Uncle (ship captain, all oceans unlimited tonnage). I will learn how to use it on land proving to my self that I, no matter where, and I travel a lot and always KNOW where I am. Finding Longitude by time on paper is simple for me. Now to learn longitude by sextant. Of course latitude with sextant and Polaris is also easy.
Now to your opinion on cell phones and the like. I never said I live off grid. I am on grid with diesel full back up power. Due to mountains and also the lack of heavy populations (wonderful) Verizon does not have any cell towers where I could have coverage. On to all the the good stuff you mention with cell coverage, I have no need NOR want for any of that. Maybe if I was much younger, that need/want might change. I live a peaceful life being remote. Actually being remote is a Blessing.
Regards
Paul
