Alan,
I do believe the U.S. jumped the gun dismantling Loran C before a replacement was installed. The risk of being without a back-up outweighs the cost savings.

The U.S. shut down LORAN- C to save a couple of bucks but the Brits are going with an improved eLORAN system to have a backup, I think we should too. There is some hope in this area.
In U.S. action described, are we seeing "penny wise, pound foolish"?
