    So, your instrument has zero backlash. That should have no bearing on whether
    you "agree" with "my theory" or not. Which isn't mine, and isn't theory, it's
    mechanics documented by many other people over the years. You can document it
    yourself, and the fact that you have no perceivable backlash doesn't affect the
    facts--it just means your gears mesh well, perhaps assisted by a spring in the
    mechanism.

    This is like index error, and compensating for index error. If you have none,
    you can skip checking for it and compensating for it. That doesn't mean IE
    doesn't exist, it just means you can get away with ignoring it--for now, for
    that instrument.

    Might come back to bite you when the error does develop, or you use a different
    instrument though.<G>
