Frank,
You said S. Atlantic and also said your shot was about 3:15 past noon so LAN was about 13:30 Z which gives your Long. 22d W. My first try was using 10d S and I calculated 91 miles away with Zn of 305d. Second try using AP of 11d S and 21d W gave me 9 mile away Zn 305d
I do not have a chart of that part of the Atlantic so I do not know what island ( or Rocks ) you saw.
