As a lot of you are into Lunars, you might find the following three articles of the Philosophical Transactions (http://www.journals.royalsoc.ac.uk/) most interesting: Volume 37, 1731/1732, Number 420, pages 147-356 (no not 210 pages, page 356 is added as it contains an important errata) Volume 37, 1731/1732, Number 421, pages 185-195 Volume 37, 1731/1732, Number 425, pages 341-356 The first article describes the invention of the Octant (by John Hadley). The second describes a method for finding longitude within a degree and refers to the first article (by Edmund Halley). The third article is the first field test done with the Octant (by John Hadley). As said in [NavList 1764] these articles are free for download until the end of the year (but I have a copy for those who see this message too late) Nicols --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ To post to this group, send email to NavList@fer3.com To , send email to NavList-@fer3.com -~----------~----~----~----~------~----~------~--~---
