        Personally, in the unlikely event of clear skies, I expect to be too engrossed with watching and attempting to photograph the spectacle to do much else.

        There is a connection between lunar eclipses and longitude discussed on Navlist that concluded here which you may want to contemplate as you make your sights. The fact that Columbus predicted and observed the lunar eclipse of 1504 from Jamaica means that he was misrepresenting what he believed his longitude to be. (Recall as the story goes he used it to terrify the natives and convince them to continue to feed him). A possible implication is that he probably didn't really believe his own reduced value for the radius of the Earth,
