Lunars with Young's formula: always off by several minutes
    From: William Porter

I have taken several lunars lately and reduce with Young's formula. Thank you to George Huxtable for the excellent piece and reading list. I am currently using a spreadsheet. I am using haversine methods, with which I am well familar from sun sights, with a view to the future but I don't think that is relevant. I have a decent Chinese metal micrometer-screw sextant and can take a sight. I have checked my observations and calculations with star-star sights but CANNOT correctly reduce lunars. I get errors of up to 5' to 9' or more. In desperation I took a lunar on Polaris so I would KNOW what the true distance was (because I could check with a little "plane sailing" at the pole). That came out to about 1'. Still way too much, bot obviously less. So I am getting either the parallax or the RAs wrong or am working out the true Distance wrong. Would someone VERY patient be willing to take a couple of my sights and reduce them for me to help islate my problem?
