Could you provide your DR lat and long so that I could check against Frank's online site? Also the actual GMT of the sight?
I think this is the sight you are referring to.
5/12/2016 082307 UTC. DR S 41 06.5 E 175 05.2. Venus - Mars 36 deg 29.5'.
I would not worry too much about the result because it was my very first Lunar sight and so is likely to be in error. I have since discovered Frank's calculator and used it on some sights taken last night. The results are given in another post.
I have not applied a parallax correction to Venus so that is another thing I must learn about.
Anyways, let me know what the correct answer should be and I'll try to figure out where I went wrong and then describe the method in detail for you.
Yes please. I want to learn the manual method. For the same reason that I made a point of working intercepts by Norie's haversine tables although I now use the cos formula and a calculator.
Best wishes and welcome to the lunatic fringe!
LOL! I thought that "I'm a Lunatic" would make a great t-shirt logo. Only one or two people in NZ would understand it. But no, in this PC age it would probably be misinterpreted.
