Hi David,
Thank you! I was taking almost continuous shots, often only pausing long enough to write down the data. As viewed through the sextant, the sun would move away from the bubble in an angular path, so I would have to use the fine adjustment on the leveling head to center the sun horizontally and use the sextant knob to move the sun vertically to bring it back into the center of the bubble.
I forgot to mention I used a computer program called AstroNavigation to get the computed altitude, and the program also corrects the Ho for parallax and refraction.
I have a Bendix MK V that uses a hanging mount, but I prefer the solidity of the solid mount - and they are more fun to design and machine!
The A8-A's I have I use as they were designed (hand held) and that is more of a challenge!
