Thanks very much that's just what I needed. Just got a moon and mars sight by holding a head torch in place of the bulb holder. It's a very nice instrument. I saw the heater and presumed it was 28v but couldn't decide if the 3v bulbs were powered off that. As you say best to make up a battery box with a switch. Pity it's so heavy but seems much better optics than the MK IX. Thanks again.

Pleased to help. Make some little hadwood wedges. Find a window ledge with a radiator below. Open the window; put your Mk2A on the window ledge and chock it level. Kneel against the radiator and take your shots with the aid of Frank's GPS Spoof Pro to save messing around too much. Any vistitor will assume you're Christopher Robin . In the summer you can rest it on top of your car using a yacht or caravan non-slip mat. Keep your eyes open for a proper mounting. Expect to pay at least as much for a mounting as you did for your sextant. DaveP
