Hello!
Recently I spent some time in efforts to set my electro-mechanical wrist watch (with 24-hours face and hour hand) to the time signal - making its' minutes hand to point to the exact minute mark when the seconds hand is at zero. (It in itself was rather difficult on a cheap caliber with large play in the gear train)
Alas, it was all ruined yesterday by a carelessly put the watch on my SW receiver - near a dynamic with significant magnetic field around.
The step motor in the wrist watch stalled...
It resumed as soon as I took the watch off the receiver's cover.
So this is yet another downside of electro-mechanical watches:
- first is the possibility to inadvertently move the seconds hand by some acceleration (the step motor is not strong enough to keep position)
- and now this unfortunate discovery
Hope this helps someone.
Warm regards,
Tony
