This little article came to my attention a short time ago, but I was so busy I hadn't caught up with questioning it. I was looking at an old 1909 chart this morning with an outdated variation correction, and it brought me back to the topic.
What possible impacts does it have on navigation besides the obvious? If the core model is less stable and varying more than predicted, what tools or systems might be affected. Many electronic systems might compensate through auto-update, but what might not?
Sometimes you read such things that don't put into perspective the order of magnitude (such as the "earth wobble" caused by major earthquakes in the past), so I thought I would ask.
