How about starting with a look at the insides of a Bygrave and at how the MHR-1 was locked (my guess is that it uses the same principle as a collet chuck)? If it's simple to transfer the mechanism to a Bygrave, then people who want one can take their choice. Purists can have the original Bygrave and pragmatists can have the modified one. I don't see this as a particularly complex issue. In New Zealand, Real Men are supposed to be able to make anything work with number 8 fencing wire and baling twine. My problem is likely to be to access the right materials, which is why I look to the engineering cornucopia of the USA...
