How many NavList followers have studied this aerial navigation textbook from 1944? I know from old NavList posts that Gary has a copy.
It's quite interesting, just beautifully illustrated, and it seems to tackle the issues of aerial navigation in plain language and good detail. I brought it with me for some topical reading on this trip. It was published by Consolidated-Vultee Aircraft Corporation of San Diego, CA and the introduction by the president of the company makes a rather interesting point. In about half a dozen years, aerial celestial navigation had gone from an obscure art practiced by only a few (Fred Noonan had died with Earhart just about those half dozen years earlier) to a nearly ubiquitous tool on the hundreds of large transport aircraft crossing the globe during the war. In navigation history, six years is a blink of an eye.
