ECDIS systems use dynamically parameterized map projections to dynamically shift the center of the projection to the area being displayed, minimizing distortion and ensuring that Great Circles and Rhumb Lines maintain their true shapes for accurate navigation. Unlike traditional projections that fix a center for a global view, an ECDIS dynamically adjusts the map projection and its parameters so the area on screen is the focus, making it suitable for worldwide coverage without significant visual distortion.
