Welcome to the Navigation List. Here is a meridonial parts formula. It
should be calculated to at least 4 decimal places, otherwise if it lies
close to 90d or 270d a large error may be introduced in calculating the
distance.
M = 7915.7045 x log tan (45d+ L/2) - 23.2689 sin L
M = meridonial part
L = latitude
I have a Mercator Sailing program for an HP32SII that I use as my primary
DR. Before calculators I used Mid-Latitude Sailing restricted to 600 mi
intervals.
