A short update if anyone is interested. I must have taken over a hundred shots with the Mk IX by now during the winter and spring. It still is somewhat wandering in its precision, sometimes it is spot on for 5 sequential shots and then off by 3-5' (in either direction) all of a sudden. Meanwhile, my normal trommelsextant and artificial water horizon is well within 1' almost every time .
So it works as it should I imagine, as long as I don't expect it to be as precise as the trommel. (And it is a huge improvement to the A-12.)
