I never could get beyond page 50 of Moby Dick.
I did, however, read “War and Peace” from cover to cover in Russian in 1998. Given the amount of archaic military vocabulary, I had a good English-language translation close at hand for ready reference.
It’s a majestic book requiring about as much time as a transatlantic crossing in a sailboat.
Tolstoy was not a sailor, however. We are starting to drift off topic and risk a good lashing by our captain on the good ship NavList.

I did. Yes, it is tedious and boring - even in original language, and I can only imagine how badly it was distorted by translations.
Following this thread with some interest i think I'll try to give MD a go - though I doubt I could enjoy such a thing. I'd rather prefer something about carburetor tuning and emulsion tubes' set-up...
