Mode of use of small sextants

A kind friend who knows of my love of instruments recently sent me a gift of a sextant. I will not identify him in case everyone might want one.
As members may be uncertain how to operate such a small sextant, illustrated in the first picture, I show one method of obtaining sun sights with the "instrument" in the second picture. No doubt there are other methods that members may be able to suggest.
