What other geared Antikytheristic tools (or toys) can we make? David Pike invested a little cash and time a few years back building some kits that displayed some astronomically relevant motions. A common orrery isn't too hard, but how about an Antikytherish orrery to predict passes of the International Space Station??
I remember years ago seeing a 19th century design for a hand-cranked device to demonstrate Kepler's (equal areas) Second Law, too. I don't remember the original design, but I want one. What would be a good DIY design that we could make from simple (home-carved?) gears and other basic mechanical bits?
Or how about a tide engine? If we limit ourselves to the top several harmonics, M2, S2, and a couple more, could we build a basic machine ro predict tides by turning a crank? Maybe not with high-accuracy, but enough to draw a month-long Sping/Neap cycle? That might be educationally valuable. Any other simple analog Antikytheroid computing devices?
