Vessels out of sight of land still need to check the gyro and magnetic compass with celestial observations. Compass checks using a Sun or star azimuth remains an important part of the days work for both commercial vessels and yachts. As the fiber optic gyro and GPS compass becomes more popular then CN will probably achieve full antiquated status. For very small cruising yachts CN may still remain popular as a low tech option. One way that could insure continued use of celestial navigation would be to give a racing sailboat a handicap advantage for using CN positioning.
