A few weeks ago a NavList member asked if my GPS Anti Spoof app was making good money, and yesterday someone asked if it "paid my rent at least". Sometimes things that are marginally successful can be misleading, and apps are certainly in that category. I make about $55 monthly on average from that app ($50 on the iPhone/iPad side, $5 from Android), which is about what I expected after the initial rush. Even with a couple of dozen equally "successful" apps, I would barely cover my rent. 

I bring this up so that others will not think that there's "gold in them hills". Small businesses are often less successful than they may appear. I'm sure each of us has had the experience of seeing a charming restaurant or unusual shop in a small town and thinking "what a wonderful way to make a living" and then discovering later that the business is owned by someone who has deep pockets, vast wealth from other sources (inheritance, retirement, stock payout, etc.), and the business is little more than a hobby for the owner where the bottom line hardly matters. So you can count this message as a small "public service". I don't normally show my cards on business matters, but I think this information may be useful to some of you. There's a little glowing iron oxide in those hills, but gold? Only in the rarest of cases. :)
