    The Moon on Moon Day
    From: Frank Reed
    Date: 2018 Jul 20, 16:15 -0700

Today is "National Moon Day" in the US. It's the 49th anniversary of the landing of Apollo 11. Tonight is also a nice night to get out and look at the Moon since it will be only a few degrees from Jupiter. The details are somewhat location-specific thanks to parallax, but it looks like closest approach is a little before 11pm Eastern Time here in New England. The distance from the Moon's near limb to Jupiter should be about 3°. This is not particularly close, but it should attract some attention from casual stargazers. Coincidentally, this is also close to the time of the anniversary of Neil Armstrong's "one small step" which occurred at 10:56pm.
