Just did an errand out in the yard here at N42  W 72 . Clear ,cold New England night with some snow cover. Moon bright, Mars and Venus clearly visible to SW. Nice.

A few days ago here at 41S 175E I went outside to observe the Moon, Venus and Mars. Although the Moon made a brief appearance the clouds obscured the other objects.

Today the sky is almost clear. I note that in my location Menkar is chasing the  Moon, Mars, Venus, the Sun and Mercury.    I suspect that the Sun will be too low for a lunar but a venus lunar is a definite possibility after the Sun sets. Menkar is a mag 2.5 star so I may not be able to see it in my light polluted neighbourhood. Mercury will just be setting and so behind hills even if it is visible.

At 1831 local time the Moon will be on the meridian. I suspect that it will be too close to the sun to see but  I will I check. Maybe I can do a Moon meridian altitude or even an ex-meridian.

I had no plans to take sights this afternoon but your post has spurred me on.

PS Thanks to Andres for his Nautical Almanac app. It makes planning sights very easy.
