Paul, I suspect C&P's comment about the Schüler prism "to reduce the dazzle from
the sun" is one of those quirky translation errors. I never noticed a change in
dazzle (i.e. sun dogs glittering, etc.). The primary purpose, AFAIK, is that it
exagerrates the horizon by breaking it, so you can very quickly see that the
sextant is/not level. Perhaps they mean that with a clear firm horizon, the
distraction from water dazzle isn't as distracting? Or perhaps because it is a
"beam splitter" of sorts, they're suggesting the bright spots would be less
bright, i.e. being split as well?? If so, I hadn't noticed.
In theory the polarizing filters on the C&P Ultra will reduce dazzle, the same
way that any polarizing sunglasses will reduce it to some extent.
