    The Moon's Sleep Cycle
    From: David Pike
    Date: 2025 Mar 10, 02:56 -0700

Amongst the presents? ? which creep into my PC overnight without my asking for them, I find I now have a Co-Pilot, so I thought I’d give him/her a trial flight.   I gave him/her “The Moon wakes up at night and goes to bed in the daytime” as a test piece.  This is what he/she came up with.  I fancy my postings are going to be a lot more classical in future.

    The Moon's Sleep Cycle

    When the Night Calls

When the horizon dims and the sky begins to transform into a tapestry of twinkling stars, the Moon gently awakens from its slumber. It stretches its silvery beams across the heavens, casting a serene glow that enchants the night. The Moon, a nocturnal sentinel, graces the world with its presence while the rest of the universe seems to pause in reverence.

As the night deepens, the Moon ascends higher, embracing its celestial duty. It watches over the world below, its gentle light guiding countless nocturnal creatures and comforting those who find solace under its tranquil gaze. The Moon's soft luminance has inspired poets, artists, and dreamers throughout the ages, each finding their own meaning in its silent, steadfast vigil.

But as dawn approaches, the Moon begins to tire. The first hints of daylight emerge, and the Moon knows its time is drawing to a close. It slowly descends, retreating to its hidden sanctuary beyond the brilliant curtain of the sun. The Moon bids farewell to the night, leaving the day to bask in the warmth and brilliance of the sun's embrace.

In the daylight hours, the Moon rests, gathering strength for the night's return. It dreams of the stars and the endless expanse of the galaxy, preparing to once again rise and watch over the world when the evening comes. And so, the cycle continues—unseen by those who walk in the light, yet ever-present for those who seek the quiet magic of the night.

The Moon's sleep and waking cycle, though not bound by time as we know it, serves as a reminder of the beauty and constancy found in the rhythms of the natural world. It is a celestial dance, a timeless ritual that connects the realms of night and day, illuminating the balance between rest and wakefulness, darkness and light.  DaveP’s Co-Pilot

    What is NavList?

NavList is a community devoted to the preservation and practice of celestial navigation and other methods of traditional position-finding. We're a group of navigators, navigation enthusiasts and hobbyists, mathematicians and physicists, and historians interested in all aspects of navigation but primarily those techniques which are non-electronic.

To post a message, if you are already signed up as a NavList member, start a new discussion or reply to any posted message and use your posting code (this is a simple low-security password assigned when you join). You may also join by posting. Your first on-topic messsage automatically makes you a member, and a posting code will be assigned and emailed to you for future posts.

Uniquely, the NavList message boards also permit full interaction entirely by email. You can optionally receive individual posts or daily digests by email, and any member can post messages by email (bypassing the web site) by sending to our posting address which is "NavList@NavList.net". This functionality is similar to a traditional Internet mailing list: post by email, read by email, reply by email. Most members will prefer the web interface here for posting and replying to messages.

NavList is more than an online community... more about that another day.
