MPP has been discussed many times on NavList. Most threads focus on MPP within the Cocked Hat while others view a probability or uncertainty band around LOPs.
I recently purchased a set of 1960's Air Force Air Navigation training manuals and within the Celestial Navigation Volume II found a definition of MPP I had not seen before. Attached are scans of the cover and the two pages explaining the method.
Essentially it deals with assigning the MPP along the intercept (not on LOP) given the intercept ('p' nm) and time (t in minutes) since the last DR/AP or Fix. The formula is quite simple:
d = tp/(t+p) where d is distance (nm) from DR/AP towards the LOP.
Perhaps NavListers have an view of this MPP method.
