Rog,
I started with a Davis 15 some 20 years ago. An Alpha 40 followed that. Then there was a quiet period of some years but the collection has now expanded in more recent times with a Simex Junior for the sake of a name, a Tamaya 633, a Freiberger Yachtsman, and an Astra 111B being added.
I do not have any favourites as I am not really a navigator, I have the basics and for me that is enough . I just like sextants and when a bargain crops up I will have a look.
The dear old Davis has been the most utilised, it has travelled many a highway and byway as this bloke taught himself the rudiments whilst living inland. We, the Davis and I, have been quite adrift at times, most times actually, but occasionally knew where we were.
I agree, one is enough and the Davis has done all I desire but if I am quite honest but there is nothing quite like the heft and feel of a good brand metal sextant.
