Speaking of the sun: Has anybody on the list observed it in the last few Wow. No wonder the short-wave radio works so well. In "Explanatory Supplement to the Astronomical Almanac" (ISBN 0-935702-68-7) on pages 140-145 are several formulae for the refraction correction including the one in the N.A. The "Astronomical Almanac" also has a couple of formulae on page B62 (in the latest copy I have, 1994). I have never been able to match the tables exactly, but it is after all measured data and has real and significant variation. Bill Murdoch
