Latitude 38, a West Coast sailing magazine well known beyond its San Francisco Bay home waters reported several months ago that Project 2025, a hyper-conservative think tank even by President Trump’s standards, proposes eliminating the National Weather Service and turning over weather forecasting to for-profit companies. None of these do maritime forecasting, meaning both recreational and commercial mariners would have markedly limited weather forecasts.
Given such a scenario, it absolutely would not surprise me to see this shutdown extend to the Coast and Geodetic Survey and beyond that to other federal agencies responsible for everything from charts to the Nautical Almanac.

What have others heard? Should we be concerned for Nautical Almanac, time signal, chart updates, WX forecasting, solar forceasts, and other services for mariners?
