I find the 2016 direct sight reduction a major convolution of arithmetic :( See a basic trig calculator reduction attached. The LOPs seem to pin wheel.

I am trying to recalculate the sight reduction example on page 282-3 of the2016 Nautical Almanac by calculation. I've dropped the data needed to calculate A,B,C,D, and E into an excel spreadsheet and don't get the results they show on page 283. Perhaps I'm not understanding the math. Is there an article somewhere which shows how this method works in more detail. Perhaps showing the derivation of the variables above?
