That's good timing! I had intended to make this short list of PDFs of issues of The Nautical Magazine available next week after the eclipse expedition, but I managed to get it "close enough" this afternoon. Local links here: NavList index of Historical Navigation Books online. Note that this is also a permanent link under the Resources menu at https://navlist.net/.
The Nautical Magazine is loads of fun with a great many fascinating topics related to navigation and other maritime activities. It's also wonderfully gossip-y at times, and it cannot be trusted (but in an innocent and often revealing way --such as accounts of discoveries of islands and reefs and such which we know, with certainty, do not exist now and did not exist back then).
For Paul and for everyone else, please note that I split the original post into two parts. The preamble, pointing out the existence of numerous years of The Nautical Magazine online is now a separate thread. The specific article from one issue discussing Lord Kelvin's tables is in its own thread. Both topics are certainly worthy of discussion!
