In October 1944 he logs the distance as 47, which ties in with the stature miles scale on his chart. On 4th April he logs the same distance as 40, which ties in with the minutes of arc scale along the meridian.
Apart from anything else, can you imagine the comments from this largely Australian crew with 30 successful ops behind them when the dear old RAF expected them to change from Statute to Nautical miles for their last two ops on the squadron? Note the statute mile scale on the PM1 chart also runs up a meridian but it keeps running from 0-50. DaveP
