Having looked at the RAF, I thought I ought to check on what was happening in the USA. A quick flick though the 1943 edition of Weems shows he refers mainly to miles and mph, despite being a Navy man. I didn’t look closely enough to see if he had anything to say on the subject of knots or mph. A Sherrill Air Navigation Plotter from 1946 which I have has statute miles scales for several charts but only a conversion line for nautical miles (see below).
