    To riff off this, he was the nearest thing I had to a grandfather, and he was an invalid, stroked, for most of our time together.   Communication was difficult- I wish, very much later, we'd tried telegraphy.  It's worked for others.
    My sister, a nurse, was, after a lot of education and experience, of the opinion that he didn't need to be an invalid at all.
    And maybe I'd be better at telegraphy myself.
