My apologies. I have discovered an error in my method. Using Google Maps in 2D mode, the listed position of the ‘dot’ and transit line varies slightly and the view must be exactly overhead to get it right.
I have reworked the same three transits as carefully as I could, plotting with a ‘blind’ on the intersect area to prevent prejudice. The result astonished me with no discernable cocked hat and about 1000m further North than before. In the unlikely event of this being right, the photographer would have got his/her feet wet.
A similar rework of the distance by visual arc gives a line a mile further South, 40° 26’N, passing through the Nike Missile site.
