I'd be happy to organize a NavList gathering next fall in Salem, the home of Nathaniel Bowditch (as JohnH noted). I believe that the Maritime Site (http://www.nps.gov/sama) would be willing to host us, and there's a good chance that some of the Friendship crew would be interested in the talks. The Friendship usually does disappear for a drydock checkout sometime every fall, which we should try and avoid (I'll try and find out if and when that is on the schedule). In addition to the Maritime Site we have the Peabody Essex Museum which has been mentioned recently a couple of times on NavList, and numerous historic houses. Finally as October draws near there is always some Halloween weirdness going on!

Let me know what you think of this possibility. Meanwhile I'll do some checking with the Site. -GeorgeB

It's that time again! It's been nearly a year and a half since our last gathering of navigators, navigation enthusiasts, and scholars in the history and mathematics of navigation. Previous Navigation Weekends were held in June of 2006, 2008, and 2010 at Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut. For 2012, I would like to plan for a September gathering. I would be interested in hearing opinions from all who might attend or who can't attend. We could also try for a different location if that's of interest.
