    Navigation Weekend: Spring 2010
    From: Frank Reed
    Date: 2009 Oct 14, 13:28 -0700

    Ken suggested regarding Greenwich:
"Why not have our meeting there?"

Sorry. Not a chance. The core group is still in the US and few would be
willing to spend that kind of money for something like a navigation weekend
in the UK. But ya know, if you want a meeting in the UK comparable to the
ones we've had in Mystic in the past few years (see fer3.com/Mystic2006 and
fer3.com/Mystic2008 if you're unfamiliar with this), just plan one. That's
how these things have happened so far. I just declare that the event will
happen and then do the work to make it happen. It's a LOT of work with little
direct pay-off, so think it over carefully.

As for current plans for Mystic, I am looking at two weekends in the Spring
right now: April 16-18 and May 14-16. Anyone see any conflicts with these
    dates?

I am still considering the possibility of an alternative location, maybe
somewhere mid-Atlantic. And ALL NavList members as well as all others
interested in traditional navigation are welcome! I do recognize that it's a
long way to travel for some, and I apologize for that.

By the way, I met up with Stan Klein (who did a presentation in Mystic in
2008) at the memorial service for Don Treworgy on October 3rd. We estimated
that about five hundred people were in attendance. It was a fine tribute to
    Don.

PS: Some of us went aboard the large barkentine "Mystic" at the end of the
Navigation Weekend in 2008. Sad to say, that impressive vessel is now owned
by the bank, and it is up for sale. Fortunately, this business was separately
incorporated so despite bankruptcy, Amy and her partners were able to keep
    the schooner "Argia".
