When I was in the Air Force I had to go through four different survival schools: land, sea, jungle, and artic. In all the main lesson was MENTAL! We were taught how to get food and water, do first aid, make shelters, etc. but were also taught to be positive, don't give up hope. Because of the Vietnam War we were taught how to avoide capture and make it back to our own side. But if not in enemy controled territory we were also taught to help being found. Make a smokey fire, make noise, flash lights and use mirrors with the sun, put large letters on the ground ( SOS ), and the like. Yes, stay put but stay active and STAY POSITIVE.
